When we set out on this adventure, our initial plan was to plant a lavender field, sell the flowers, and have our clients at Drozian Photoworks come do portrait sessions. We had been thinking of ideas for a while about what to do with our acreage and had just started a big garden. I was dreaming of taking our family pictures in a lavender field when the idea struck me: we should do pictures in a lavender field of our own! I brought the idea up with Dusty, and we both agreed that lavender would be perfect to grow on our farm since it’s drought tolerant and loves a hot, dry Mediterranean climate like the one that we have here in Northern California. From there, we began brainstorming ways we could start our business before we planted our fields in the spring. I have an interior design degree and absolutely love to create, so I knew I wanted to incorporate aspects of décor into our product line. After that, we started thinking of other fun things we could make as aids for teaching our kids, Ronan (Rody) and Aurora (Rory), especially about some of the things we love like travel, being outdoors, and music. Many of the products we develop are based on the things that Ronan dreams up. His first request was a dinosaur puzzle, then next was a fish and a shark, and then I decided to make him some shadow puppets. I am sure our line of home goods, toys, and educational products will continue to evolve and grow alongside our children. We hope that our products bring warmth to your home and bring you closer to your family like they have for us.

Dusty Droz is the co-owner and co-founder of Rody + Rory alongside his wife Amy. Dusty was born in Van Nuys, California and moved to Los Molinos at an early age when his parents bought a cattle ranch. It was there in Los Molinos, during high school, that he met Amy, and they have been together ever since. Dusty graduated from Chico State with a degree in Business Information Systems. He has an entrepreneurial mindset and is always encouraging Amy to dream bigger. In 2009, a year after Drozian Photoworks was created, Dusty co-founded Drozian Webworks, specializing in websites for destination marketing organizations. In 2012, he quit his consulting job to focus on the two growing businesses. In 2020, Rody + Rory was founded and named after their two wonderful children Ronan (Rody) and Aurora (Rory). Dusty’s mind for business is the perfect compliment to Amy’s creativity. He adores his wife and children and loves being able to teach them how to grow up on a farm, similar to how he grew up on a cattle ranch. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, building Legos, and anything Star Wars related.
